Active

Definition of 'Active'

’Active’ is a status reported by a credit reference agency on your credit report which signifies that the credit account being reported is in full use, and is being actively managed.

An active account is one that is not dormant.

Under positive reporting, which has enabled credit reports to be populated with active accounts as well as defaulted accounts, the inclusion of active accounts enables a credit score to be calculated that takes account of the responsible use of credit.

The more active accounts on your credit report, provided they are managed properly and payments are made on time, the more creditworthy you are and the less risk you pose to a new lender.

You should endeavour to have at least three active accounts on your credit report if you wish to maximise your chances of getting further credit.
