checkmyfile helps consumers access information held about them and to use that information to help make more informed credit decisions

Checkmyfile Pty Limited is a registered company under the Corporations Act 2001 and is registered in Victoria. Australian Company Number 126 743 271.

It is a subsidiary of the UK company Credit Reporting Agency Limited, which is a fully registered credit reference agency, notified with the Office of the Information Commissioner under the Data Protection Act 1998 for Worldwide transfer of data. It is also registered as a credit reference agency with the Office of Fair Trading under the Consumer Credit Act 1974. Its terms and conditions were originally approved by the UK Consumers’ Association under the Which? Webtrader Scheme which checkmyfile.com operated under throughout the term of that scheme.

In March 2000, through checkmyfile.com, it was the first company in the UK to give consumers online access to credit reports. It was also the first in the world to provide consumers with access to personal credit scores and credit ratings. Credit Reporting Agency Limited was also the first to use credit scoring as a tool to help consumers find lenders matched to their credit ratings, helping consumers to find cheaper credit more easily and to reduce the risks of being declined.

Credit Reporting Agency Limited is a privately owned company, funded independently without reliance on any institution and with no link to any government agency. Full independence enables Credit Reporting Agency Limited to give impartial, unbiased and objective advice, helping consumers to take control of the information held about you. Currently, over 1.4 million customers are registered to use its UK services.
